A 10-Point Plan for Schools (Without Being Overwhelmed)

Teaching Your Kids at Home

Homeschooled kids learn more life lessons than their counterparts who go to school. Kids in school learn a lot of academics, they know their maths, they know their sciences and all other subjects but life lessons are nowhere to be found.

Many adults face difficulty dealing with daily life simply because they have not been taught in school how to cope; they have not been taught life lessons. As homeschooling parents, we should be thankful that we have the opportunity to share life lessons with our children as well as lessons from the books.

Here are some examples of life lessons that you can teach your children at home.

Sure we have home economics classes in school, but this is not enough to help the child live and fend for himself. It is the privilege of homeschooling parents to be able to teach their children how to cook and clean and use these lessons in real life.

Letting children clean as they go produces a great habit for children. Clearing up should be a part of every lesson so that it becomes a habit for them to clean as they go.

Teaching children how to budget is also important. A lot of people have never been taught how to budget and this is why when they grow up they get into financial trouble. Schools teach math which includes money but students are never taught about budgeting. The problems lie here.

There are many activities that you can do with your children to teach them how to budget. Play shopping using play money can be used to teach budgeting. Going to a child friendly store like Anthill shop N play is a great place to teach budgeting. Here you can give them a budget each and ask them to buy some items in that store. Another way to teach this is by giving your children an allowance which has to last for a month. They can use it to pay for candies, toys, or activities they want to do.

Self care is seldom taught in school although they teach children to eat healthy and stay active. We can see many adults not knowing how to take care of themselves because they were never taught as children to do so.

To help calm their minds and relax them, you can teach them meditation. If a child learns deep breathing, he can help himself when he goes older if he knows how to reduce his feelings of stress and anxiety. Art and other ways of self expression must be encouraged in children to find a way to express themselves.

Being able to educate your children in these things as a homeschooling parents is a great privilege and opportunity. They will have better chances of a happier and more successful future.
